The black Sabres were tournament champs, placed third over all and are playoff champ hopefuls. Sabres were a team that won more games as the season went on through the acquisition of some new players and the unknown causes of missing players. The major fear that the Sabres brought to its opponents was the skill of its top scoring line. As a team the Sabres played well together on and off the ice. Sabres ripping force was accomplished by the following teammates.
Ackert, Mike | |
Winger. Always looked for a pass from his centreman. Did not get a lot of goals but sure did get some scoring chances.
DeJong, Rob | |
Centre. All round great player. Always passed the puck. Never hung on to the puck too long. Wrote this write-up, therefore could write anything I wanted, Sorry, guys!
Dench, Rod | |
Defence/Forward. If Rod was not playing hockey then he would either be out golfing or looking after business. Rod offered a deal that, if you bought a car from him, he would pay your hockey ice fee for the 2000-01 season, Let's make a deal.
Fitzmorris, John | |
Defence, Home-made beer, gambling and Friday night hockey is all that John needs to get by. John changed rolls from being a forward to a solid defenceman. His skill at pressuring the opposing forwards would make you wonder what is in that home brewed beer.
Freeman, Rod | |
Defence. His determination to stay on his skates, play some sort of new position, and search for the player bench after cleaning the barn fridge demonstrated what Friday night hockey is all about.
Klein-Geltink, John | |
A steady goalie who never allowed a puck or beer pass by him without tasting first.
Lemp, Don | |
Defence. With great determination, Don would go to any means to prevent the other team from scoring when he was on the ice. Unfortunately, Don sometimes opted for the penalty box so that he would not be on the ice if the opponents did score. Determination is Don's best asset.
McEwin, Roger | |
Centre. Had an excellent season centring a top scoring line. Roger played a defence-minded game while still offering support to encourage his wingers to receive many points.
Miller, Tom | |
Winger. Tom who? Where did Tom go? After Tom used opposing player John Condos to stop himself from moving across the ice we have not seen him. If anyone sees Tom, look out because he is out of control.
Minogue, Tim | |
League President and acrobatic goalie. Tim's style of getting down and swinging his pads high above his head never stopped to marvel his teammates and opponents. Tim's dedication to ensure the league's success this year is much appreciated. Unfortunately, opponents did not always stop from scoring to show their appreciation.
Mitchell, Dave | |
Winger. This was my first season (started at Christmas), was my first league in 19 years and, sadly, my last. I had a lot of fun playing with all the guys. My most memorable game was when Gordie fed me a sweet pass to go in on a breakaway and I scored my first goal against Shawn Bruce. Good luck next year guys.
Noble, Robert | |
Winger. Known as "Bouncing Bob." You can always find Bob getting those exciting goals full of spirit whether it was a winning goal or a goal giving us a 10 goal lead.
Stoop, Neil | |
Defence. A dedicated player who was quite often late for our games but ,none-the-less, showed up and played hard.
Todd, Gordie | |
Winger. What a hockey player! Not only can Gordie score goals, he's also an excellent playmaker. He inspired me to play better which resulted in some big wins. Thanks for a good season Gordie.
