At the beginning of the year someone said we had a hot team and we would be the team to beat. Well, probably every team won against us at one time or another, even if we got seven goals, but that's Friday night hockey. We had a good time and lots of fun. Thanks to Big Pete for being our fearless leader and keeping us in line after the game.
Benjamins, Harry | |
Harry always had a kind word or two for our goalies when they had a bad night. He played to win because he hated to lose and still has the biggest fan club.
Bidwell, Brad | |
A solid defenceman who likes those end-to-end rushes. He had to leave early due to an injury. Get in the shop for repairs and see you next year.
Blancher, Wayne | |
The young legs on the team this year. Hides a Black Hawks jersey beneath his Flyers jersey but can get physical like the Flyers when he feels the need to.
Carter, Grant | |
Grant is still trying to build a good hockey team. He can still be counted on to score a few goals and back check, something that's often forgotten in our league.
Cuthbert, Les | |
Les works hard on defence but we were never sure if he'd be there due to farm commitments. One thing we were always sure of was that he had room in his hockey bag for a little bottle of whiskey.
Donohue, Barry | |
A tough guy on defence who could always be counted on to carry the puck down to the far end. There were only two places Barry would be on a Friday night and he would be at whichever place he saw first.
Eygenraam, Wallace | |
Wallace never figured to win the scoring title, so just played to have fun. He got the first goal of the Millennium three weeks into the playoffs. Pressure's off.
Kish, Pete | |
Pete did a great job for us in net this year. He was always ready to play ... after he went home to get the rest of his stuff. We missed his help in the tournament because he got a better offer.
Minogue, Bob | |
Bob is a solid player but got slowed down in the points race by an injury. He had a problem with his skates for a while but still managed to finish the season.
Otto, Doug | |
Doug sometimes brought sandwiches along in his hockey bag in case he got hungry. It took us half a year to convince him to use his own stick.
Pugh, Keith | |
Keith spent a lot of time putting out fires in front of our net but was not afraid to venture over centre to get himself on the score sheet. He was also good at keeping pucks out of the empty net when our goalie was off in the corner.
Riley, Andy | |
He was the other half of our puck-stopping duo and also did a great job for us this year ... so he said. We found out he likes to come out and pass the puck up to his mates. The trouble is, we think he's colour blind.
Rizzo, Ralph | |
Ralph says the kids on his minor hockey team always tell him, "but that's not the way you do it on Friday night." Even so, he can still put the puck in the net.
Stoop, John | |
We could always count on John to stop the puck on an empty net shot when our goalie got caught in the corner. Gave his all every night whenever he was on the ice.
Van Kooten, Rick | |
Rick joined the team halfway through the season to beef up the defence. We thought we had a stay-at-home defenceman until he found out where defencemen play in the league. Welcome to the league.
Webber, Marvin | |
You could always count on Marvellous Marvin for excitement when he tried to stop a player who had the puck. He could really slow a guy down when he got hold of him.
